An 18-year-old is going into adulthood armed with $1 million thanks to the lottery ticket his grandma gifted him for his birthday, California officials said.

On the day it became legal for him to play the lottery, Kaleb Heng didn’t even have his ID yet, lottery officials said in an April 6 news release.

“My mom was driving me to go fishing, and on the way, I scratched it. We had to pull over,” Heng told officials. “It was a million dollars, and I didn’t even have an ID yet! We turned around and went home because I had to get an ID before I could even claim the ticket.”

Ironically, the name of the Scratchers ticket his grandma bought him is The Perfect Gift, officials said. Heng said he’ll use the money to pay for college and invest in his future.

His grandmother bought the winning ticket at Oasis Market in Turlock, the release said.

Another lottery player also won $1 million on a Scratcher, the release said. John Vang’s brother-in-law gifted him a Power 10’s ticket as a Christmas present.

That ticket came from Sunnyside Liquor & IPA Hub in Fresno, the release said. Vang got his gift while visiting from out of state over the holidays.

“I actually don’t ever play Scratchers — that’s what’s funny about it,” he told lottery officials. “I do play Powerball and Mega Millions, but not Scratchers.”
