Watch bear expertly cross the raging South Yuba River, north of Sacramento

Behind the historic Washington Hotel, about 90 miles northeast of Sacramento, a bear masterfully navigates its way across the raging South Yuba River, video shows.

To encouraging onlookers, the bear launches into the rapidly flowing water, goes under for a second, and emerges on the other side in spectacular fashion. The video was shot May 27, 2023.

In a caption provided by video licensing company Viral Hog, the videographer described the scene: “A bear crossing the South Yuba River during spring snowmelt behind the Washington Hotel.”

The town of Washington was established in 1850 after a company from Indiana arrived at a stretch of river rich in gold and hunkered down for the winter.
