Snowshoer rescued near California stretch of Pacific Crest Trail at Donner Summit
A snowshoer was rescued this weekend near the Pacific Crest Trail by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteer group.
The person was reported missing near Donner Summit around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Sixteen members of the search and rescue team responded on skis, and they found the snowshoer that day about two miles from where he had set out.
He was “located and returned, warmed up, given some food and water before being transported back to his vehicle,” the group posted on Facebook.
The National Weather Service on Friday had issued a weekend-long severe weather warning for Nevada County, which encompasses Grass Valley, Nevada City and Truckee.. Chain controls were ordered Saturday on major Sierra highways after snowfall in Truckee and the greater Lake Tahoe area.
