See Paris Hilton in Sacramento to advocate for youths placed in state treatment facilities

Paris Hilton, the hotel heiress, media star and advocate for youth, visited Sacramento on Monday to highlight Senate Bill 1043, the Accountability in Children’s Treatment Act.

Teaming up with California state Sen. Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield), Hilton said the bill aims to protect youth placed in residential treatment facilities by the state.

“I know firsthand the horrors that happen behind closed of youth residential facilities,” Hilton said at a news conference. “...It’s a nightmare that no child should ever have to endure.”

While in custody at one of the facilities when she was a teen, Hilton was subjected to isolation and denied “even the most basic rights,” she said.

ACT aims for more transparency for youth treatment facilities licensed by the California Department of Social Services by requiring information on the use of restraints and seclusion rooms to be accessible to the public on an online dashboard, according to a news release.
