In a video released by San Diego Humane Society on May 22, a very affectionate 8-year-old pup makes her rounds giving people kisses and nuzzles.

Fittingly for a dog this popular, the staff at the humane society call her Beyonce, saying she is a “superstar” just like the American singer-songwriter.

According to the organization’s website, Beyonce arrived at the humane society in January. A chronic ear infection led to her needing to have her ear canals surgically removed, leaving Beyonce deaf.

“That hasn’t dampened her spirits one bit!” the humane society said in a Facebook post. “The only drawback we’ve found is that she can’t hear our praises when we tell her what a perfect pooch she is!”

Prospective owners might be concerned about their ability to train a dog who can’t hear, but according to the American Kennel Club, training a deaf dog is not that different from training a hearing dog.

The humane society echoes this.

“Treats are her biggest motivator, making training a breeze,” they said.

AKC explains that if you give your deaf dog a treat whenever he or she looks at you, the dog will learn to look at you often for visual cues that you can then make with simple hand signals.

Beyonce is now at a foster home awaiting adoption. Anyone interested in giving her a home can call the humane society at 619-299-7012.

“Somehow, this sweet deaf lovebug is still a single lady!” they said. “When we say everyone loves Beyonce…we mean EVERYONE.”
