Geyser from severed fire hydrant lifts crashed car in air, California video shows

A geyser from a broken fire hydrant lifted the back end of a crashed car several feet into the air, a California video shows.

“We’re going to chalk this up as something you don’t see everyday,” the Orange County Fire Authority said in a June 8 post to X, formerly known as Twitter, with the video.

Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle collision in Lake Forest in Southern California around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, the post said. One vehicle sheared off a hydrant.

While initial reports said people were trapped inside the suspended car, firefighters found they had gotten out on their own before they arrived, the post said.

The two were taken to a hospital for medical care, firefighters said.

Fire crews worked to reduce the water gushing from the hydrant, lowering the car and allowing them to reach a hydrant shutoff valve, the post said.

Lake Forest is about a 45-mile drive southeast from downtown Los Angeles.
