California is home to some of the nation’s best public schools, according to Niche.
The ranking and review site recently released its 2025 list of the Best Schools in America, based on factors such as academics, diversity, teachers and college preparation.
Niche graded schools on a scale of A+ through D-,
According to Niche, the top schools in California include elementary, middle and high schools in San Diego, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

How did Niche come up with its findings?
Niche based its rankings on “the most up-to-date data available from dozens of public data sources” such as the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Census Bureau, “along with millions of reviews from students, parents and residents,” the company said on its website.
The site has nearly 2.5 million school reviews from students, parents and teachers, Niche said.
