Naked man may have hid under 93-year-old’s home for months, California family says
A naked man found hiding in the crawl space beneath the home of a 93-year-old grandmother had to be flushed out with tear gas, California police told news outlets.
Ricardo Silva told KNBC the family had been hearing noises beneath his mother-in-law’s home for weeks.
“It was usually late at night, and we just chucked it off to animals being under the house,” Silva told the station. On Thursday, Nov. 7, the noises got louder, like someone knocking.
Police responded at 10:30 p.m. and found a naked man hiding beneath the house, KTLA said.
The man refused to come out and had to be forced out with tear gas at about 4:30 am. Friday, Nov. 8, police told KCAL.
Officers arrested the 27-year-old man on a charge of trespassing, KNBC reported.
The family told KCAL they found blankets and food under the house. They suspect he may have been entering the crawl space at night and leaving in the morning.
“It’s a bizarre thing, but it’s not probably uncommon, you know, in this day and age, people are looking for shelter,” Silva told KNBC.
El Sereno is a neighborhood about a 5-mile drive northeast from downtown Los Angeles.
