Screaming man breaks down door, kills one as family hides inside, California cops say
A man accused of breaking down a home’s door and killing one as a family hid inside has been arrested, California deputies say.
A resident called 911 at about 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, to say a stranger was screaming outside their Valley Ford home, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a Sunday, Nov. 17, Facebook post.
The caller was not present at the time but was speaking with a family member who was at the home, deputies said.
They relayed information from the family member to the dispatcher as deputies made their way to the rural home, according to the sheriff’s office.
The man, later identified as 44-year-old Adrian Yanez of Fairfield, screamed at the two family members at the home as he tried “to break down the door,” deputies said.
While one family member started to lock the doors and windows, the other “hid in the home,” according to deputies.
Yanez broke down the door and killed one of the family members, deputies said.
As deputies arrived, the caller continued to relay information, the sheriff’s office said.
Using this information, deputies said they found Yanez and took him into custody.
The man was booked into jail on charges of murder and burglary, deputies said, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19, jail records show.
The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint charging Yanez with murder and burglary on Nov. 18, court documents show.
Valley Ford is about a 60-mile drive northwest from San Francisco.
