Seven puppies born to dog ‘deckhand’ on whale-watching boat, California cops say

A dog “deckhand” on a San Francisco whale-watching boat is the proud father of seven puppies born on the vessel, California police reported.

The Kitty Kat was about to depart on a San Francisco Whale Tours trip when Capt. Joe Nazar realized one of his two dogs on board was about to give birth, Nazar told KTVU.

He called police for help and an officer with the marine unit came aboard to help with the delivery, San Francisco Police said in a Dec. 8 news release.

Sam, a German Shepherd rescued by Nazar a year ago, gave birth to seven pups, KTVU reported. The pups were fathered by Bear, also a German Shepherd.

Bear works as a “deckhand” aboard the Kitty Kat, helping pull in wet lines, KPIX reported.

“He has taken to sea life and excelled. He enhances our morale,” Nazar told the station.

Instagram and TikTok accounts featuring Bear have received millions of views, according to KPIX.

“Today was awesome, an experience I’ll be telling stories for a lifetime,” Nazar told KTVU. The delivery took about four hours and Officer Sean Padilla will receive one of the pups for his help.
