Powerball player misses $285 million jackpot in California — but still wins big
A Powerball ticket sold in California won $33,113, but just missed the $285 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The tickets matched four winning Powerball numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Monday, Jan. 13, the California Lottery said.
In California, lottery prizes are adjusted based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $303 million, with a cash value of about $132.8 million, for the next drawing Wednesday, Jan. 15, the national Powerball site said.
The winning numbers were 4, 6, 16, 39 and 66 with a Powerball of 9, the lottery said. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
A Powerball ticket sold in Virginia won a $1 million prize.
More than 460,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said.
The Powerball jackpot has not been hit since Dec. 7, when a New York player won the $256 million grand prize, lottery officials said.
