A man accused of committing a lewd act in a girls high school locker room has been arrested, California deputies say.

School administrators called the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, Jan. 13, after a 15-year-old girl told them an unknown man was inside the girls locker room at Newbury Park High School in Thousand Oaks, deputies said in a Jan. 15 news release.

While he was there, she said he “committed a lewd act” in front of her, deputies said.

Conejo Valley Unified School District did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Jan. 16.

Through a joint investigation with school officials, deputies said they identified James Arthur Silver, 55, of Newbury Park, as a suspect.

He was booked into jail on a lewd conduct charge but later released, deputies said.

Silver is expected to appear in court on March 14 for arraignment, according to deputies.

Deputies said they believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. Ray Dominguez at (805) 371-8392 or ray.dominguez@ventura.org.

Thousand Oaks is about a 40-mile drive northwest from Los Angeles.
