Woman with facial injuries found dead near lifeguard tower on California beach, cops say

A cleaning crew discovered the body of a woman next to a lifeguard tower on a beach, California police reported.

The woman, found in a sleeping bag at about 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, had visible facial injuries, Santa Monica police said in a news release.

Firefighters pronounced the woman dead at the scene, police said. She was found near the waterline.

She has not been identified, police said. Her cause of death remains under investigation.
