A juvenile accused in “a series of attempted robberies and criminal threats” posed as a 24-year-old on a dating app to lure victims, deputies in California said.

The juvenile male, whose age wasn’t released, used the app to arrange meet-ups with men, and then “he would demand money and threaten victims with a firearm,” the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said in a March 6 post on Facebook.

He pointed a firearm at one of the men, deputies said.

The juvenile was arrested after “an undercover operation” in Live Oak in which deputies arranged to meet him at “a pre-arranged” spot, per the release. “Once confronted, he attempted to flee on foot,” but he was arrested after a short chase, deputies said.

“A replica firearm was recovered at the scene,” deputies said, adding that the juvenile was booked into juvenile detention in connection with multiple charges, including robbery, criminal threats, hate crime and resisting arrest.

Live Oak is about 50-mile drive north from Sacramento.
