Fly over Golden Gate Bridge in sun, wind, fog in stellar drone video + 5 facts

A new video shows incredible views over the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco — taking in its towering orange spans and the shifting bay fog.

The drone footage was shared by Ambient via the Sacramento Bee’s video content provider VideoElephant.

The Golden Gate Bridge, built from 1933 to 1937, connects San Francisco to Marin County across the Golden Gate Strait.

Here are some facts about the bridge to enhance the unique aerial perspective in the video above:

Iconic color: The Golden Gate Bridge is painted in a color known as “International Orange,” chosen to enhance visibility when the bay’s frequent fog rolls in.

Engineering marvel: When it was completed in 1937, the landmark was the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world. It spans with 4,200 feet and soars 746 feet above the water.

Wind resistance: The span is designed to withstand winds of over 100 miles per hour. The Golden Gate Strait is known for strong gusts.

Construction feat: Strong tides, deep water and frequent fog did not deter crews from completing the bridge ahead of schedule and under budget.

Culture: The Golden Gate Bridge has been featured in numerous films and TV shows — including “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Monsters vs. Aliens,” “Godzilla,” “A View to a Kill” and “Vertigo.”
