Stray dog spent months at California shelter. Now, he’s ‘where he truly belongs’
After a stray dog was taken to a Southern California animal shelter in September, he waited and waited.
Despite spending “the holidays waiting for a second chance,” Yayo’s unwavering spirit remained, Riverside County Animal Services said in an April 3 Facebook post.
He “held onto hope that his forever family would find him,” the shelter said.
His months of waiting proved to be “a journey worth every mile,” as it ultimately led him to “a happy ending:” a home with a “kind-hearted couple,” the shelter said.
As the months rolled by, the shelter said it looked for new ways to help Yayo “find his perfect match.”
The shelter said it arranged to have Yayo transferred from its Coachella Valley Animal Campus to its Western Riverside County/City Animal Shelter in hopes of increasing his odds of finding a new home.
“But fate had other plans,” the shelter said.
A couple who walked Yayo a dozen times “through the community-based Fido walking group, couldn’t bear to see him” leave Coachella Valley, the shelter said.
When the duo arrived at the shelter to adopt Yayo, the shelter said, “There was no hesitation.”
“Yayo was going home with them,” the shelter said.
Yayo rushed to his new owner and rested “his head in her lap, as if he knew he was going home,” the shelter said.
After making the 100-mile trip to his new home, “where he truly belongs,” the pup is starting “his new chapter” and “is finally getting all the love he so rightfully deserves,” the shelter said.
