A firefighter had to get creative to rescue a seagull tangled in fishing line that was spotted dangling from a light pole in California.

Photo and video show the “feathered friend” swinging by its wings just beneath the light pole. An Alameda County firefighter climbs up the fire truck ladder — with what looks like a plastic bag in hand — in a video of the “unique rescue” shared to the department’s Instagram account April 6.

It works like a charm. The firefighter opens the bag, brings it up around the bird’s body and head, closes the opening to stop the bird from trying to fly off and cuts the fishing line, the video shows.

The firefighter then carries the bagged bird back down the fire truck ladder with him, video shows.

“Thanks to some quick thinking and teamwork, our firefighters were able to safely free the bird,” the department said. “Moments like this remind us: every life matters — even our feathered neighbors. We’re hoping the seagull makes a full recovery at the vet clinic!”
