Rare ‘architectural gem’ by iconic architect lists in California. Take a peek

The list of legendary architects people know by name is minuscule, at best. Unless you’re familiar with the field.

One of the names people may know is the brains behind this seven-bedroom, seven-bathroom residence.

“A rare mid-century architectural gem by master architect A. Quincy Jones, AIA, one of California’s most celebrated mid-century modernists, has been listed for $34,900,000,” the listing on Coldwell Banker Realty says.

For the record, his name shouldn’t be confused with music mogul Quincy Jones.

“Nestled in the heart of Beverly Hills on a rare street-to-street nearly 1.2-acre lot north of Sunset, the masterpiece home exemplifies timeless California modernism,” listing agent Joyce Rey said in a news release.

“This is a unique opportunity to own a residence that combines architectural integrity and historic significance.”

While the mid-century modern build is often associated with Frank Lloyd Wright, Jones brought his own unique style to this specific type of home, including its mesmerizing interior features.

Original mid-century details include iconic floor-to-ceiling glass walls that flood the interiors with natural light, terrazzo flooring and stone accent walls.

“Ideal for effortless indoor-outdoor living, the open-concept layout seamlessly connects expansive living and dining spaces to multiple patios and outdoor spaces.”

The grounds contain a swimming pool, tennis court and two-unit guest house.

  • Retreat-like primary suite with fireplace

  • Backyard

  • Tennis court

  • Two-unit guest house

In addition to the A. Quincy Jones residence, there are only two other estates within walking distance of downtown Beverly Hills.

“Jones built only 5,000 projects during his career,” listing agent Nanette Iggulden said in the release. “In addition to this masterful estate, there are only two other estates that are within walking distance of downtown Beverly Hills.”

Jones also built restaurants, churches and universities in addition to residential homes.

“He was a believer in creating housing that functions within a community,” Modern Living LA said.

The listing is held by Coldwell Banker Global Luxury Property Specialists affiliated with the Beverly Hills office of Coldwell Banker Realty.
