A man crossing the street died after California police say he was hit by three cars and the drivers failed to stop.

While traveling down La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles the evening of Aug. 3, a driver hit a man crossing “in an unmarked crosswalk,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release.

The pedestrian, later determined to be a 61-year-old man, was hit “by at least two additional vehicles” as he lay in the roadway, police said.

None of the drivers involved in the collisions “stopped to identify themselves, render aid or call 911,” violating state law, police said.

As Los Angeles Fire Department’s paramedics drove the man to a hospital, police said he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity will not be “released until additional family is notified,” according to police.

Police said they are looking to the public in hopes of identifying the drivers involved, adding that anyone with information is asked to contact them at 323-421-2500.
