Jogger pulled to ground by stranger and sexually assaulted near park, CA cops say
A woman jogging near a park was pulled to the ground and sexually assaulted by a stranger, California police say.
The woman was on a jog near Thille Park the evening of Monday, Aug. 11, “when an unknown man called out to her,” the Ventura Police Department said in a Facebook post.
The jogger ignored his calls, continuing on her route, but soon noticed the man was following her and getting closer, police said.
Then, the man “grabbed her, pulled her to the ground, sexually assaulted her” and ran from the area, according to police.
The woman went home and told police about the alleged sexual assault the next morning.
As part of their investigation, police said they’ve been going door-to-door to try and gather video evidence and speak with anyone who may have seen the incident.
“We are using every available resource to find the person responsible, and we encourage everyone to help by reporting anything suspicious and sharing any video footage that could assist in the investigation,” Police Chief David Dickey said in the release.
Police said the man had a slim build and stood between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 9 inches tall, adding that he was “wearing dark clothing.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 805-339-4408.
Police urged residents to “to stay alert and aware of their surroundings” and to, “whenever possible, travel with a friend or in groups and let someone know your route and expected return time.”
Ventura is about a 70-mile drive northwest from Los Angeles.
