An 18-year-old stabbed a stranger and livestreamed the attack on Discord, California officials said.

On Aug. 19, Newark officers responded to reports of an assault, according to an Aug. 25 Facebook post by the police department.

The victim was sent to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries and is now in stable condition, officials said.

The man was stabbed in the shoulder and lung, police told KTVU.

The investigation revealed that Luis McLaughlin Jr. had a “desire for notoriety” and attacked the victim while he was cleaning kitchen equipment behind a restaurant, officers told KRON.

McLaughlin was taken into custody Aug. 24 and charged with attempted murder the next day, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 510-578-4960, police said.

Newark is about a 40-mile drive southeast from San Francisco.
