Woman escapes during hours-long sexual assault, then is recaptured, CA cops say
During an alleged hours-long sexual assault, a woman managed to escape from her accused attacker, only to be recaptured, California deputies say.
At about 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, Santa Barbara County deputies got a report of a sexual assault that happened earlier in the morning, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Deputies said they learned a woman had “endured an hours-long physical and sexual assault.”
At some point, deputies said, the woman fled the apartment to a common area but was forced back into the apartment.
The 22-year-old Isla Vista man and woman knew one another, deputies said.
The man was arrested later that evening and booked into jail on multiple felonies, including “kidnap to commit rape, rape by force or fear, false imprisonment, criminal threats, domestic violence, and preventing a victim from calling 911,” according to deputies.
He remains in jail custody without bail, deputies said.
McClatchy News reached out to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office and is awaiting a response on formal charges.
