Outrageous video shows wild smash-and-grab mob robbery in Northern California

A mob of up to 30 people is caught on surveillance video as it quickly converges on a jewelry store with guns and axes in hand in a brazen smash-and-grab robbery in broad daylight Monday in San Ramon, California.

The crime in the city about 30 miles east of San Francisco, in the East Bay, has galvanized the community, which is calling for accountability and change, according to NBC Bay Area.

The robbery occurred at Heller Jewelers at City Center at Bishop Ranch.

Edward Liang of the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office told CBS Bay Area that smash-and-grab robberies are a growing problem in San Jose, Sunnyvale and Milpitas.

“When we look at smash-and-grabs, they are charged as robberies. But they are a much more violent subset of the overall retail theft world,” he told the television news station.
