Typically, this married California couple heads out of town every weekend.

About one weekend a month, however, they stay home, Andrew Jeske told California Lottery officials in an Oct. 23 news release.

“When we do, I grab some food and stop at that store to pick up a few (lottery) tickets,” he told lottery officials.

Turns out, their staycation routine was “a profitable decision,” lottery officials said.

As part of their staycation, Jeske said he stopped by a La Habra liquor store and bought some scratch-off tickets.

The couple soon learned their Sunny Money Scratchers ticket scored them a $1 million prize, making for a “staycation to remember,” lottery officials said.

“My wife seemed a little excited, but we weren’t running around calling to plan vacations or nothing,” Jeske said.

He said the couple plans to keep their win mostly to themselves, adding that he prefers the “store clerk continues to know him as just ‘that guy’ who comes in now and then to buy a couple Scratchers games”

La Habra is about a 25-mile drive southeast from Los Angeles.
