Screams lead cops to woman being sexually assaulted in park, California cops say
A woman’s screams led officers to her being sexually assaulted in a park, California officials said.
On Nov. 9, officers got reports of a woman screaming from Kellogg Park, and when they arrived at the scene, they found a man, later identified as 32-year-old Jannier Urbina-Avila, sexually assaulting a woman he didn’t know, the Ventura Police Department said on Facebook.
Urbina-Avila fled the scene on foot before being arrested shortly after, police said.
The woman received medical attention and was provided with services for sexual assault survivors, officials said.
Urbina-Avila was arrested and booked on multiple charges related to sexual assault, police said.
“This was a horrifying situation that no one should have to face,” Police Chief David Dickey said. “Our officers’ quick response prevented further harm and ensured the victim received immediate support.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 805-339-4465, police said.
Ventura is about a 70-mile drive northwest from downtown Los Angeles.
