Powerball player misses $570 million jackpot in Northern California — but wins big

A Powerball ticket sold in Northern California won $38,625, just missing the $569 million jackpot, lottery officials say.

The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Monday, Nov. 17, the California State Lottery said.

California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.

Where was winning Powerball ticket sold in California?

The lucky ticket was sold at Walmart Supercenter, 15555 Hesperian Blvd. in San Leandro, lottery officials told McClatchy News in an email.

A ticket sold in West Virginia won $1 million, the national Powerball site said.

What were winning numbers in Monday’s drawing?

The winning numbers were 7, 33, 50, 57 and 66 with a Powerball of 23.

The Power Play multiplier was 5x.

What is the Powerball jackpot up to now?

Nobody won the Powerball jackpot, which rises to an estimated $593 million, with a cash value of about $277.6 million, for the next drawing Wednesday, Nov. 19, the national Powerball site said.

Nearly 550,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States won prizes ranging from $4 to $250,000, the lottery said.

The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.

How to play Powerball lottery game

To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

Powerball drawings are broadcast Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.

The next drawing will be Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Powerball is played in 45 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
