Powerball player wins $500,000 prize in Northern California as jackpot soars

A Powerball ticket sold in Northern California fell just one number short of winning the $745 million jackpot, lottery officials said.

Instead, the lucky ticket won $501,453.

The ticket matched five winning numbers — but not the Powerball — in the drawing on Monday, Dec. 1, the California State Lottery said.

California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.

Where were winning Powerball tickets sold in California?

The lucky lottery ticket was sold at Manila Oriental Market, an Asian grocery store at 950 King Drive in Daly City, lottery officials told The Sacramento Bee in an email.

A second lottery ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball to win $56,449.

That ticket was purchased at M&G Market & Liquor, 12384 Palmdale Road in Victorville, lottery officials said.

That’s about a 40-mile drive north from San Bernardino.

What were winning numbers in Monday’s drawing?

The winning numbers in the Monday, Dec. 1, drawing were 5, 18, 26, 47 and 59 with a Powerball of 1.

The Power Play multiplier was 3x.

Tickets sold in Georgia and Illinois won $1 million each, the national Powerball site said.

What is the Powerball jackpot up to now?

Nobody won the jackpot, which rises to an estimated $775 million, with a cash value of about $362.5 million, for the next drawing Wednesday, Dec. 3, the national Powerball site said.

Nearly 785,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $150,000, the lottery said. There were nearly 100,000 winners in California.

The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.

How to play Powerball lottery game

The next drawing will be Wednesday, Dec. 3, just before 8 p.m.
