A Mega Millions ticket sold in Northern California fell just one number short of winning the $100 million jackpot, lottery officials said.
Instead, the lucky ticket won $917,636.
The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball in the drawing Tuesday, Dec. 23, with a 2x multiplier, the California State Lottery said.

The lucky ticket was sold at Gary’s Smoke Shop at 2190 Main St., in Oakley, which is a little more than 40 miles southeast of Sacramento.
