Northern California player wins big in Powerball. Where was the lucky ticket sold?

A Powerball ticket sold in Northern California fell just one number short of winning the $178 million jackpot, lottery officials said.

Instead, the lucky ticket won $364,462.

The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, the California State Lottery said.

Another ticket matched four numbers and the Powerball to win $39,805.

The Powerball jackpot was last won Dec. 24, when an Arkansas player won the $1.82 billion jackpot.

To score a jackpot in Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.

The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.

Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

Powerball drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.

The next drawing will be Monday.
