Emergency workers conducted search operations through the extreme conditions.

Firefighters located three occupants inside the burning residence. The victims are believed to be one adult female and two juveniles who were pronounce dead at the scene, authorities said.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our community. I extend our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, and all those impacted by this tragedy,” said Fire Chief Bryan Cogburn.

According to authorities, five occupants resided in the home; two were able to escape and survive.

The identities, gender, or age of the victims have not been released as of Wednesday.

“Our firefighters faced extremely challenging conditions and did everything possible. We are keeping the survivors, the victims’ families, and our crews in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time,” Cogburn said.

According to authorities, fire crews remain on scene extinguishing remaining hot spots and ensuring the structure is fully secured.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation. No firefighter injuries have been reported.

Tulare County Fire and CAL FIRE assisted with suppression and scene operations. Porterville is located about 75 miles southeast of Fresno in Tulare County.

Porterville Mayor Greg Meister issued the following statement: “As a community, we must come together to uplift and support those who are grieving.”
