California Powerball player wins big, barely missing $35 million jackpot
A Southern California lottery player won a seven-figure sum on an impressive Powerball play Saturday, according to lottery officials.
Though the ticket just missed out on the $35 million jackpot by one number, the player secured $2,242,838.
According to the California State Lottery website, the lucky ticket matched five numbers, missing only a matching Powerball number, during the Saturday, April 11 Powerball drawing.
California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.
Where was winning Powerball ticket sold in California?
The $2 million winning ticket was sold at a Shell gas station at 22295 Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, lottery officials said.
According to the California State Lottery, retailers who sell a Powerball ticket that wins at least $1 million receive a sales bonus of 0.5% of the winnings. For this ticket, the fortunate Shell station will receive an $11,214 bonus.

The winning numbers were 6, 47, 49, 53 and 60 with a Powerball of 6.
The Power Play multiplier was 2x.

Nobody won the jackpot, which rises to an estimated $45 million, with a cash value of about $20.5 million, for the next drawing Monday, April 13, the national Powerball site said.
More than 323,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $50,000, the lottery said. There were nearly 50,000 winners in California.
The Powerball jackpot was last won April 6, when a Delaware player won the $231 million jackpot.
