Funeral arrangements for fallen Tulare County Sheriff’s deputy Randy Hoppert Jr. were announced Tuesday afternoon by Sheriff Mike Boudreaux.

A public viewing will 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 27 at Visalia First Assembly at 3737 S. Akers St. in Visalia. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office asks that no one arrives at the chapel before 4 p.m.

A memorial service to pay tribute to “Hoppert’s life, service and sacrifice” is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 28 also at Visalia First Assembly.

Hoppert was killed in the line of duty April 9, when a man ambushed deputies serving an eviction notice at a home in Porterville. The man was later killed by law enforcement after a six-hour standoff.

The public is welcome to attend the memorial service.

There will be no graveside service.

“We ask that those attending please be respectful of the family and follow all directions from law enforcement personnel to ensure a safe and dignified service,” the sheriff’s spokesperson said.

Hopper is the first California law enforcement killed in the line of duty in 2026.

He is survived by his wife, and their two sons, as well as his mother and sister.
