Which California state jobs offer remote work? See openings with hybrid schedule

Do you want to work from home in California?

About 40% of state workers are eligible for remote work.

In 2024, Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered most employees to return to the office at least two days a week and proposed expanding that to four days. However, that change has been pushed back to July as California’s labor negotiators and state worker unions resume discussions.

In the meantime, many state departments — from insurance to public health — are still hiring for remote and hybrid jobs, according to listings on CalCareers as of Friday, May 1.

State jobs are also known for offering competitive benefits, including access to the nation’s largest public pension system.

Most state positions come with specific education or experience requirements, which are linked in the job postings.
