Davis police investigating mountain lion sighting
A mountain lion was reportedly sighted in Davis Friday, though authorities reported they were unable to locate the animal.
The Davis Police Department received reports of an unconfirmed mountain lion sighting just before 10 a.m. near Wintun Place and Washoe Street, the department announced in a Facebook post. Officers conducted a search on foot and using a drone, but were unable to locate the animal. Mountain lions are generally elusive and avoid human contact, officials said, but community members are reminded they should remain alert and follow safety precautions including:
- Don’t approach or attempt to follow the animal
- Keep children and pets close
- Avoid jogging or biking alone in isolated areas
Other safety precautions provided by the National Park Service include reminders not to run from the animal and to act intimidating by making yourself look bigger by raising your arms and speaking loudly
Residents are encouraged to report any sightings to the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
