Seven locations in Avenal searched by Kings County DA and Sheriff’s offices
Search warrants were served Wednesday morning in seven locations within the city of Avenal by the Kings County District Attorney’s Office and the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
The District Attorney’s Office said the search warrants are related to an ongoing investigation but would not disclose specifics of Wednesday’s operation.
The DA would not disclose if the search warrants were done on city property or private homes.
It is unclear if the search warrants are related to the ongoing legal dispute between Avenal city officials and Avenal recall proponents to remove the mayor and three council members who have been recalled by voters in April. The city has claimed the recall election process was illegal.
Last month, the DA’s Office notified Avenal officials in a letter to cease and desist from spending any public funds without legal authorization after voters recalled four City Council members in an April 28 special election.
In December, District Attorney Sarah Hacker sued the city of Avenal for alleged violations of California’s Brown Act.
This is a developing story.
