Two-alarm grass fire contained on Fair Oaks Bluffs
Firefighters on Wednesday evening contained a two-alarm grass fire near Sailor Bar that forced the evacuation of two homes and threatened others on the Fair Oaks Bluffs, said Michelle Eidam, spokeswoman for the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
The fire burned roughly 15 acres. One home suffered deck damage.
“There were multiple homes where the fire burned right up to the defensible space,” Eidam said.
She said that defensible space was crucial in saving homes from damage near the fire line.
Progress of the fire was buffeted by strong winds Wednesday afternoon, and forced the use of an air water tanker from the California National Guard, Eidam said.
Eidam said the origin of the fire has not been established but that she was told by fire officials that there was suspicious activity in the area before the fire was reported. Arson investigators were on the scene Wednesday night, she said.
