El Dorado County controlled burn may be seen in Folsom and on Hwy. 50, forest officials say
A controlled burn on Eldorado National Forest land starting Wednesday may be visible along Highway 50 in east Sacramento County, including Folsom, forest officials say.
The prescribed burn area is a 90-acre patch of forest about three miles east of Georgetown in El Dorado County, the U.S. Forest Service said in social media posts.
“Smoke will be visible from Mosquito, Kelsey, and Georgetown east of Highway 193,” Eldorado National Forest tweeted Wednesday morning. “Smoke may also be visible as far away as Highway 50 and Folsom.”
The burn is part of the multiyear Tobacco Gulch Ecological Restoration Project, which will use a combination of burns, vegetation mastication and herbicides to treat more than 2,750 acres of forest land to reduce wildfire fuel in the area and protect forest ecosystems, according to the Forest Service.
No estimated start time was provided for Wednesday’s prescribed burn.
