Crews increase Quail Fire containment in Solano County despite wind, Cal Fire says

Fire crews have maintained the upper hand on the Quail Fire burning in Solano County, which did not grow in reported size Monday despite gusty winds in the day’s forecast.

The wildfire, burning about 15 miles north of Vacaville and five miles southwest of Winters, remains at 1,837 acres and is now 75 percent contained, Cal Fire’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said in a 7 a.m. incident update Tuesday.

The fire ignited Saturday afternoon near Quail Canyon and Pleasants Valley Road and swelled to 1,200 within several hours amid gusty winds, according to Cal Fire.

The Quail Fire has destroyed three buildings including at least one home, according to Cal Fire and the Solano County Office of Emergency Services. Another 100 structures remain listed as threatened as of Tuesday’s incident update, but mandatory evacuation orders and road closures put into place Saturday have been lifted since Sunday, when winds started to ease up and fire activity slowed significantly.

A total of 200 personnel from multiple agencies remain assigned to the blaze, “mopping up hot spots” and continuing toward full containment, according to Tuesday’s update. At its peak, about 600 firefighters were at the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

The National Weather Service had issued a red flag warning from late Sunday through Monday evening due to fire weather, with gusty winds set to blow in parts of the eastern Sacramento Valley.

Another fire handled by Cal Fire’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa unit, the Boyles Fire near Clearlake, prompted a brief evacuation order Monday afternoon. Crews halted forward progress on the fire at 3 acres, and the evacuation order was lifted in less than four hours.
