Cascade fire near Tahoe’s Emerald Bay reaches 90 percent containment

With the 20-acre Cascade fire near Emerald Bay at 90 percent containment, the last closures near it have been lifted.

Bayview Trailhead and Campground and Taylor Creek Sno-Park on Highway 89 have reopened, Cheva Gabor, public affairs officer with the U.S. Forest Service's Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, said Monday.

Heavy precipitation over the weekend allowed firefighters to achieve 90 percent containment of the fire, near Snow Lake in the Desolation Wilderness.

Crews now will begin repairing impacts from fire-suppression activities and will monitor the fire for any renewed activity later this week due to drier, warmer and windier conditions, Gabor said.

The fire remains under investigation, but it has been determined to be human-caused.
