Fire burns over 25 acres, destroying outbuildings in rural Sacramento County
A vegetation fire in rural, southeastern Sacramento County burned more than two dozen acres and destroyed some outbuildings before being halted Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The fire ignited around 2 p.m. in a eucalyptus grove along Nelda Lane, east of Herald, in the Herald Fire Protection District said in a Facebook post Monday evening.
The district said the fire destroyed some outbuildings, but no homes were damaged and no one was injured. Herald Fire officials said crews would remain at the scene overnight to monitor for potential hot spots.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, Cosumnes Fire Department, Wilton Fire Protection District and Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado unit all assisted in the fire response.
Herald Fire Protection District officials estimated the fire at 28 acres, Cal Fire reported it at 27 acres and Metro Fire said it reached 26 acres before forward progress was stopped.
Metro Fire said fire crews were continuing “extended” mop-up work as of 8 p.m. At least one Metro Fire helicopter and one bulldozer responded to the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
