Some evacuations lifted as crews slow progress of Sandra Fire in Butte County

Authorities have lifted a number of mandatory evacuation orders and warnings in the area around the Sandra Fire, which ignited in Butte County on Thursday afternoon.

The Sandra Fire is burning near Robinson Mill and Forbestown, east of Oroville. It spanned around 35 acres as of 6 p.m., according to Cal Fire’s Butte County unit.

At 6:45 p.m., the Butte County Sheriff’s office announced that they were lifting evacuation orders for Forbestown zones 684 and 831, along Jernigan Way and Lake Haven Way. They also lifted an evacuation warning for Hurleton zone 855.

An evacuation order remains in place for Forbestown zone 685, along Black Bart Road.

The fire broke out around 4:45 p.m., with Cal Fire’s Butte County unit announcing that firefighters were arriving on the scene of a vegetation fire in Robinson Mill, and that they were requesting a “significant augmentation of resources.”

A shelter is open for those under evacuation at OroNaz Church in Oroville. A shelter for small animals is also open at the Old County Hospital in Oroville.
