Apple Fire: Evacuations lifted near Collins Lake in Yuba County as crews halt spread
Mandatory evacuations issued for a wildfire burning near Collins Lake in Yuba County were lifted Thursday morning, after crews halted the fire’s spread.
The Apple Fire was moving toward the Daugherty Hill wildlife area from White Oak Lane, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office announced shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday in a Facebook post.
The Cal Fire Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit in a Thursday morning update said the fire had charred 39 acres of grass and brush, and was 35% contained. The fire was first reported at 3:08 p.m. Wednesday about 5 miles northeast of Browns Valley.
Cal Fire officials on Wednesday afternoon said the fire was threatening structures, but it was unclear how many. In an 8 p.m. update, the agency said structure threat had been mitigated and forward progress stopped.
The Sheriff’s Office lifted all remaining evacuation orders and advisories just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Evacuation orders had been in place for Yuba County Zone YUB-E102, which was further split into YUB-E102a and YUB-E102b. The latter zone was downgraded to an evacuation advisory Wednesday evening, allowing areas west of White Oak Lane and Redhill Way to repopulate.
Residents displaced by the Apple Fire were sent to Sycamore Ranch along Highway 20 in Browns Valley, sheriff’s officials said. The Yuba County Sheriff’s Posse Arena opened for large animals in Browns Valley.
