A 6 to 7 acre fire burning north of Colfax prompted evacuations in the Shady Glen area in the early afternoon Thursday, July 28, in Placer County.

Homes were briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon near Colfax due to a vegetation fire, according to Cal Fire and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Cal Fire’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit first reported the fire in a tweet just after 1:30 p.m., estimating it at 6 or 7 acres. The fire was burning near Highway 174, the Bear River Bridge and Gladycon Road, authorities said.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered for homes on Gladycon Road, Oakhurst Lane and Amy Way, the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post at 1:50 p.m.

All evacuation orders and warnings were lifted just before 2:15 p.m. Cal Fire said forward progress was stopped on the fire, which grew to about 10 acres.

The fire and evacuations were in the Shady Glen area, just north of Colfax city limits.

No damage was reported.
