Early morning kitchen fire erupts in Old Sacramento restaurant
A kitchen fire erupted at an Old Sacramento restaurant early Tuesday morning.
Smoke and flames at the top of the building from the 1:30 a.m. fire at the Rio City Café, 1110 Front St., were noticed by an employee of a neighboring restaurant, according to Sacramento Fire Department firefighter-paramedic Chris Harvey.
The fire on the kitchen range set off a built-in overhead fire suppressant system. The mess from the automatic extinguishing and damage from forcible entry of the front door by responding firefighters are expected to cause a temporary closure of the restaurant.
It is not known how long the restaurant would need to close for repairs and cleanup.
