The Sacramento County Regional Parks Department has requested “patience and cooperation” from residents and parkgoers throughout the month of June as fire personnel conduct a series of prescribed burns.

In a statement released on Friday, the Department announced that the burn operations will take place in partnership with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department and the City of Sacramento Fire Department. The burns are currently scheduled to take place at four parks throughout the region, with two operations expected to last for up to three days.

These operations, according to the Parks Department, will serve a number of purposes. “Prescribed fire is an important tool that helps us reduce hazardous vegetation, protect nearby communities, and maintain healthier park ecosystems,” said Regional Parks Director Liz Bella in the statement. “These projects also provide valuable training opportunities for our local fire agencies.”

What are the dates and locations for the prescribed burns?

According to the Regional Parks statement, smoke and fire personnel may be visible in the areas where the burns are scheduled to occur. More information and updates to the burn schedule are available on the Regional Parks website.
