RT guard restrains woman from entering burning duplex

A security guard at the Center Parkway light rail station pulled a woman from a duplex when she entered the burning structure.

Transit station guard Codi Shively pulled the woman from the home at Center Parkway and Union House Way about 10 a.m. Thursday, according to Regional Transit security chief Norm Leong, a Sacramento police captain.

Shively works across the street at the Center Parkway light rail station.

Arriving Sacramento Fire Department crews found flames coming from the front and the roof. Firefighters quickly attacked the blaze and stopped fire spread to the other half of the duplex, according to firefighter-paramedic Chris Harvey.

The woman may have been trying to retrieve something from the home, according to Leong. She suffered from smoke inhalation, according to Harvey, and had to be transported to the hospital.

Cause of the fire is not known.
