Grass fires contained in Lincoln’s Auburn Ravine area

Grass fires in the Auburn Ravine area in Lincoln that prompted evacuation of a nearby apartment complex have been contained.

Firefighters responded to the area shortly after 5 p.m. near First and R streets. Jill Thompson, a spokeswoman for the city, said fire officials reported five separate fires were within a 4-acre area. All were reported contained by 6:15 p.m.

No structures were damaged. Thompson said the apartment complex was evacuated as a precautionary measure.
