Clayton Fire in Lake County now 80 percent contained

Firefighters continue to clamp down Saturday on the Clayton Fire that has scorched nearly 4,000 and destroyed nearly 300 structures in a week’s time.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection issued a morning update saying that the fire that has ravaged portions of Lake County is 80 percent contained.

More than 1,200 firefighting personnel have been called in to fight the blaze that began Aug. 13.

Cal Fire said Saturday that fire-control lines continue to be strengthened and improved, and firefighters are concentrating on various hot spots while also assisting homeowners returning to their dwellings.

Cal Fire said that among 299 structures destroyed by the blaze, 189 were single-family homes, eight were commercial structures and 102 were other structures such as shed and small outbuildings.

Damin Anthony Pashilk , 40, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts, including arson, in connection with the fire.
