The Yolo Food Bank will begin a free home-delivery service Monday to help low-income seniors during the statewide coronavirus emergency, the county announced Friday.

“The Coronavirus social distancing measures being implemented in Yolo County and elsewhere are creating unforeseen barriers preventing seniors, residents with underlying health conditions, and other vulnerable populations from meeting their basic needs,” said Yolo Food Bank Executive Director Michael Bisch in a statement.

The Yolo Food Bank home delivery program will continue until further notice, and county residents can call 530-668-0690 or email info@yolofoodbank.org to participate.

The program is also available to other vulnerable populations during the state of emergency, the news release said.

People who regularly access food at the Yolo Food Bank at public distribution spots are encouraged to still go, though the spots may have changed location due to closures of public facilities. Updated information about pickup spots is available at yolofoodbank.org/gethelp.

“We are a resilient community,” Bisch said. “By working together, we can meet this coronavirus challenge.”
