The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has canceled all social visits with inmates at its jails as a precautionary measure, the agency announced Monday.

“The Sheriff’s Office values visitation as an essential part of our jail operations, but at this time, the health and wellness of all those who work, live, and visit our campus must be protected,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. “We will continue to ensure the safety and security of the people who work in our facilities and the continuation of access to medical and mental health services for the inmate population.”

While there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sacramento County’s jail facilities, all scheduled visits after March 16 will be canceled through March 30. The moratorium will be reevaluated at that time, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Legal and professional visits will continue.
